God's Original Plan

So, whats the feedback on this? Some argue that God's original desire is such that man (and woman) must not be alone. Yet, some may say that they have been called to a life of singleness. Does this mean, then, that God is calling persons to go against His original plan for us?

Yes singleness can be God's ways for others
Not all will marry

There were factors that made some people singles in the Old Testaments era. Some people became singles again because of the death of their partners; examples were Ruth and Naomi even though there was possibility of remarriage on the part of Ruth. There are references on eunuchs who were singles and they were excluded from congregational worship and priesthood (Leviticus. 21:20; Deuteronomy. 23:1), the divorced (Deuteronomy 24:1-5), those who could not marry due to certain diseases like leprosy, and the unmarried young people prior to marriage.

The New Testament reveals more about singleness than the Old Testament. Some adult singles are identified and it is in the New Testament that it is indicated that singleness is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The reason for this rare or lack or ample information on singleness may be due the Jewish culture that was dominant and promoted marriage rather than being single.
According to Hoffeditz (2005) the reference to singleness as a gift originates in one of Paul’s letter to the Christians in Corinth. In that particular reference Paul, who was a single adult indicated that it was his wish that all men and women could be like him. But Paul wrote:
Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 3Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment. 7For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that.
8But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; 9but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.
